In 2008 work started on the Boys side of the garden which was in need of a complete revamp.
The girls run was set back 2 feet from the edge of the garden path which we had widened to 3 feet.
This allowed me a flower border to plant shrubs that would eventually give shade and break the straight lines of the trellis and the outer wire on the boys side.

Inside we created a walkway setting the pens back from the outer wire by 3 feet. This was for ease of access to the 5 pens created. One is isolation separated from the next by a 3 foot storage area. Both sides of this storage area are twinwall polycarbonate effectively isolating pen one from the others.
The next 4 were designed so that each pair can easily be opened up to make two large pens

The houses were built from scratch and are fully insulated and lined. The outer casing is 2 inches thick all round so they are warm and cozy. We fitted a slide up door flap with perspex above. There are two sleeping "roosts" inside each house and another shelf under the house. As they are penthouse style the daytime litter tray is underneath but there is ample room inside each house for an open litter tray, food and water. They aren't heated but if it's really cold the boys get a snugglesafe heat pad tucked under their blankets which remain warm for 10 hours. They have two each so if it's cold during the day too, they always have a warm heat pad available.
The floor and walls of the runs have been sealed and painted.
